Post-production and Funk Happenings
Just today I finally recorded some final guitar to the track “Land of Love”. This song has been a particular challenge. It is one of those songs I wrote on a single late night and have had difficulty “putting to tape” ever since. Sometimes a mood or vibe is just so hard to come by. But the “Bloom Mix” version I meditated on almost all of 2020 as a way to put good things out into the world and to decompress. At the end I had a song that didn’t sound much like other Reverend Doctor attempts, but I decided to not let that stop me from sharing it with the world.
When artists make departures from their body of work does it bother you? I’ll admit, sometimes as a fan of certain artists I can be confused. But i’ll just simply not participate in the consumption of that particular track or piece and hold out hope that the next effort is more to my tastes.
I’m deciding to release this recording of “Land of Love” without any qualifiers. Not because I think it’s the last form of the song, but because this is my attempt to move forward from the track, to allow it a home and to rest. Not every song will sound the way it does in my head, but that doesn’t mean I need to keep working and re-working the title. Release it and move forward, right?
If you’re truly desperate for some KEITH ROLLINS sounds, my funk band, Gold Shimmer just released a new single “Nu Jack” available to stream everywhere. I’m even featured on vocals! Stream it, and let me know what you think!
Yours,
Reverend Doctor
